One of the most amazing lessons that I have ever learned is that God’s promises are not in vein. His promises become a reality as we increase our Faith. I learned this truth a few months after I started dating Edgar and we were going to Church at ALCF (Abundant Life Christian Fellowship) in Mountain View, CA. My Chuku (Our Cheesy Love-Nickname) and I discovered Agape for this Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” We fell in love with this verse and God’s promise.

Jeremiah 29:11 gave us so much hope as we were beginning our relationship, careers and journey in our adult life. I decided to write it on a piece of paper and tape it on my bathroom mirror. I did the same for my Chuku. Every morning it reminded me God wanted to prosper me, even if the circumstances at times didn’t show it, I knew God was still at work. During this time our church was offering a premarital counseling class, which is usually for couples that are getting ready for marriage. My Chuku and I looked at each other and said: “should we take it”? Keep in mind we had only been dating for 8 months. However, we thought it was a fun way to learn more about each other and how to have a healthier relationship. We learned about, communicating in a healthy way, budgeting, prioritizing, having God be the center of our relationship and keeping the covenant to always honor God. One of the main concepts we learned in this class was AGAPE, which means unconditional infinite love. I immediately fell in love with the word and it’s meaning. That is one of the reasons why I named this blog Discovering Agape.

As I was learning about God and having a relationship with Him my faith kept growing. What is faith, you may ask? I’ve learned that it’s something you can’t see (like God) but if you believe it with all your heart then you will begin to see its fruits in your life. At that time I had faith that God had sent my Chuku to me and that he was the one. He has everything I had asked God for (funny, loving, kind, good heart, Loves God, treats his parent’s with love and respect, which to me, is a reflection of how he would treat me, and many more awesome qualities).

We dated for two full years in California and everything was going great until one day my Chuku tells me, “I have an offer to go to Dallas TX and do the morning radio show for Mega 107.5.” I got a bittersweet feeling…I was very happy for him to finally get a morning radio show but yet I felt as if my heart was squished. I tried my best to not show him that I was hurting because I didn’t want to stop him from reaching his dreams and God’s calling for his life.

He was going to be moving to a different state and I wasn’t sure how we could make our relationship work from long distance. My family was very supportive. My brother, Fabian said to me “Janet don’t worry you guys will be ok.” My parent’s said “If he is meant for you, no matter where he goes, you two will be together some day, let him go.” This wasn’t what I wanted to hear at the time but I was very thankful for their words.

I had the choice to be selfish and negative or positive and supportive of my Chuku’s dream of hosting a morning radio show and leaving California. It was not easy but we decided to continue to date long distance. Ladies, all I can say is that during that time away and letting go of the man I love was a great decision because it only made us stronger. Through this long distance relationship is how I discovered agape love (Unconditional Infinite Love) for my chuku. We dated long distance for an entire year and finally on January 7th, 2011 he proposed to me. I will let you know how he proposed on another post, stay tuned.

We couldn’t be without each other anymore and after we got married on April 2011 I moved to Dallas, TX to be with my man. After a few months of being honeymooners and enjoying married life with my eternal boyfriend, we prayed and decided it was time for us to buy our first home; this was around September of 2011. The one house we fell in love with, was way over our budget. It was beautiful, it had a balcony with views to downtown Dallas and most important it was really close to my Chuku’s work.

I remember that my Chuku had doubts and was a bit nervous this house was not fitting our budget and it was another huge commitment in our lives. However, one Sunday morning before church, my Chuku was eating a granola bar on the balcony of our apartment and he saw that some crumbs had fallen to the ground and two little birds started eating them. That’s when God spoke to him (Chuku) through a verse from the bible that came to his mind: Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they? I remember my Chuku saying to me “Lets make and offer, God will provide and make it happen.” It was amazing how my Chuku’s doubts went away and we prayed to God that His will would be done.

We made an offer that we could actually afford which was much lower than the selling price and to our surprise the sellers accepted. Praise God! As if we needed more confirmation that God was guiding us in this process something extraordinary happened. After the sellers had moved out, the house was completely empty we went to do a final walk through I decided to go over every cabinet and drawer in the kitchen, everything was cleared out except this one drawer. In this small little drawer I found a stack of papers the previous owners had left behind. I couldn’t believe my eyes but in that stack of papers I found our scripture Jeremiah 29:11 on post card that was left behind. I said babe; this is our home and part of God’s plan to prosper us.

    • admin | | Reply

Bendiciones

Wow your story is amazing!!!! Your blogs bring tears to my eyes every time I read one. No not in a bad way in a good way. You and your blogs give me hope that one day I will be happy inside and out. You both are truly blessed and its definitely cause of the strong faith you both have. May God continue to bless you and your family always. I know God is good. There has been times in my life where I felt I couldn’t make it, but for some reason I do and I tell everyone I didn’t do it on my own God helped me. I am going through a rough time or rather been going through a rough time for a while now about 2 years now and through it all I am hoping and praying this all will go away one day soon. All I want is for my son to be happy and knows how much I love him and that I would do anything in this universe for him. Throughout my pregnancy I was so brokenhearted by my boyfriend, father of my 9 month old son. He has done things I just can’t forgive and as much as he says he is sorry its the constant repetition of the same mistakes that stops me from forgiving him. During my pregnancy I remember always being sad but managing I always manage to smile when I thought of him (my son). God knew that I have always wanted to be a mom. I thought I would never be one cause i’m so much older now and I was told I couldn’t have a child on my own, that I would of needed fertility help and now I have a 9 month old son. I learned that it wasn’t when I wanted this child and I learned that doctors don’t always have all the answers. With this experience I learned that faith in God is why I had my son. It was when God knew I needed to have my child in my life and I couldn’t agree more. My son has brought happiness to my mom and my dad and he is the happiest baby ever. God’s timing was perfect. Now I have faith everything else will fall into its pieces. I am not going to lie its so hard at this moment to see the rainbow after the storm. I trying so hard to have a positive outlook in my life right now…… My son is the only thing keeping me going at this moment. Thank you so much for your story and thank you for sharing it. May God continue to bless you and your family today and always and on your new journey of being a mom. Its an amazing feeling ………
